RHS Sports recap: Saturday, Oct. 19


Girls’ swimming: Rhinelander 3rd/17, Shorewood Invite


The Rhinelander High School girls’ swim team finished third in the Small School State Invite Saturday at Shorewood High School. The Hodags were edged by 30 points by Whitefish Bay for the win and by 18 points by Madison Edgewood for the runner-up spot.


Rhinelander won two events on the day. Celia Francis took the 200-yard individual medley (2:11.17) and Ella Heck won the 100 breaststroke (1:09.54). Francis was also the runner-up in the 100 backstroke while the Hodags scored third-place finishes with Vivian Lamers in the 50 freestyle and Lily Thorsen in the 100 breaststroke. Rhinelander also placed in the top three in all three relays.


The Hodags are back in action this coming Friday at the GNC meet in Colby.


Cross Country: RHS boys 2nd/7, girls 3rd/7, GNC Meet


The Rhinelander High School cross country team had eight all-conference runners as the finished runner-up in the boys’ division and third in the girls’ division of the GNC meet Saturday in Eagle River.


Greyson Gremban and Avrom Barr earned first-team all-conference honors on the boys’ side, taking second and third respectively. Gremban finished at 16:41.9 for the Hodags. Ayden Myers finished 12th and Michael Brunette was 15th.


On the girls’ side, Macy Myers finished fourth (20:48.9) and Brynn Teter was fifth. Hayley Schiek was 15th and Sophie Miljevich finished 21st to land on the all-conference squad.


The Hodags will compete at sectionals next Friday in Colby.
