Vote for the persons of your heart’s conviction

To the Editor:

Question: Are you better off today than you were four years ago?

Northwoods neighbors, America’s future hangs in the balance on this November 5, 2024 election: socialism versus freedom!  The future of our nation is 100% at stake — so please vote like your children and grandchildren’s lives and future depend on it — because it certainly does!

In far too many past elections way too many Christians have stayed home on voting day — Why?  Speaking as a Christian myself, it is very hard to see our Biblical values, upon which our republic was founded, be trampled and ignored.  We who are Christians must go into this upcoming election with our eyes wide open. We need to research the candidates for fundamental values they stand on: God and country, value of life, definition of male versus female, marriage and their position on Israel. What are we, as Christians, supposed to do when our candidates on both sides of the spectrum fail to uphold Biblical views?  Well, not voting or casting our ballot for “lesser of two evils” is not being devoted to the Cod of the Universe we worship.

For Christians, this year has been marked by the shock of two assassination attempts on former President Trump and the shake-up of the top of the Democratic ticket. Values that used to unite the two parties have simply vanished — replaced by hard-core values of the two parties and little or no common ground.

The Bible calls us to pray for “all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness” (1 Timothy 2:2, NIV). When we pray regularly for those who are willing to serve as political leaders, it will help us make best choices when we do go to the polls and cast our God-given freedom votes. We must practice discernment, understanding that we will never have perfect alignment with any pollical party.  Maybe we can’t save our country with a single election but we might very well lose our once great country.

In closing, I am an older veteran and an Independent voter — having voted for both Republican and Democrat candidates in several past elections.

So please, vote for the persons of your heart’s conviction. God Bless America.
