Vote ‘no’ on ballot referendum question

To the Editor:

Vote “no” on the ballot referendum question to amend (change) just one word in our Wisconsin Constitution from “every” to “only.”

Why did Republicans circumvent the traditional legislative process just to say that something that is already illegal is still illegal? One reason is for them to continue peddling the false perception that people who are not U.S. citizens are voting in our elections.

Even more concerning is that these same lawmakers have already discussed implementing a proof of citizenship to remain on the voter rolls. How quickly could you produce a passport or your original birth certificate in order to remain on the voter rolls or poll book?

Not a U.S. citizen? It is illegal to vote — always has been and always will be whether it says “every” or “only.” Vote “no” and tell Republicans to do the real work we elected them to do — actions that benefit our Northwoods families, public schools, and environment.
