Culture Tap program to host Mexican folk artists
The School District of Rhinelander Community Education program, in collaboration with Mexican Folk Art Collective, ArtStart, the Rhinelander Community Foundation, and Nacho’s Mexican Grill, will welcome three Mexican folk artists to Rhinelander as part of the Culture Tap artist residency program.
On October 21 and 22, the Mexican artists will be presenting to students.
“Fifth graders will be taking part in activities such as making Alebrijes (clay statues), traditional Mexican dancing, Loteria, and more,” according to a School District of Rhinelander press release. “These activities tie in with a book the students are reading titled ‘Esperanza Rising.’”
In addition to the daytime programs for students at the schools, the entire community is invited to a Community Fiesta that will be held at Nacho’s Mexican Grill in Rhinelander.
The Community Fiesta is scheduled for Monday, October 21, from 6 to 7 p.m.
During this time, the artists will be presenting traditional Mexican folk dance and playing Loteria with attendees who are dining in at the restaurant that evening, according to the release.
All are welcome.
A special thank you to the Rhinelander Community Foundation for funding a large portion of the Culture Tap Program. This is the third year in a row the Mexican folk artists are visiting the school district as part of the Culture Tap program.
