RHS sports recap: Friday, Oct. 4
Football: Mosinee 26, Rhinelander 6
The Rhinelander High School football team could not slow down Mosinee’s passing attack Friday night and fell 26-6 to the Indians on homecoming night at Mike Webster Stadium.
Mosinee’s Treve Stoffel threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns — all to tight end Brady Lokken — and added a nine-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter as the Indians racked up 414 yards of offense overall.
Rhinelander got within 7-6 on a 71-yard touchdown run by Cyrus Leisure late in the first quarter, but Stoffel hit Lokken on fourth and goal from the 5 with 1:44 remaining in the half to give Mosinee at 13-6 lead at the break.
Lokken finished with 144 yards on six catches for Mosinee. Leisure had 76 yards on six carries for Rhinelander, but left the game in the second half with a lower right leg injury. Senior Logan Schwinger also suffered an ankle injury and did not play in the second half.
Truman Lamers had 75 yards on 5 of 11 passing with an interception for the Hodags.
The loss dropped Rhinelander to 3-4 overall and, at 1-4 in the GNC, the Hodags must win their next two games to have a chance at making the playoffs. Rhinelander’s next contest is next Thursday night at GNC-leading Medford.
