Girls’ basketball: Rhinealnder 53, Wausau West 40
The Rhinelander High School girls’ basketball team led wire-to-wire again on Saturday night as it defeated Wausau West 53-40 in the final day of the Tom Kislow Memorial Tournament at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
Aubryn Clark scored 17 of her game-high 23 points in the first half as the Hodags took a 32-20 lead to the break and then put the game away with an 11-2 run midway through the second half. Kelsey Winter added 11 points, marking her third time in double figures in four games for Rhinelander. Vivian Lamers chipped in nine for the Hodags.
Paige Anderson scored 11 points, all in the second half to lead Wausau West. She scored on an offensive rebound to get Wausau West within 7 at 38-31 with 11:40 remaining but Winter answered with a right corner 3 and the Warriors never got any closer. The Warriors finished the night just 30% from the field (15 of 50) and made only two 3-pointers.
Rhinelander was 38% (18 of 48 from the field and made 7 3s — including six in the first half. Clark and Lexi Beran each had seven rebounds as the Hodags out-rebounded West 37-32 on the night.
Rhinelander (3-1, 0-0 Great Northern) will open conference play at home against Medford on Tuesday.
