Scott O. Nelson, age 66, of Rhinelander, died on November 15, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 9, 1958, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Jerome and Sharon (Jensen) Nelson.
Scott moved to Wisconsin at an early age and graduated from the Washington Park High School in Racine. He moved to Rhinelander in 1978 and has lived here since. He was first employed by Lassig Construction, then Bekin VanLines/ Rhinelander Transfer and Storage, Jesse Foods, the Sears store with his dad and the Gatewood Claim Services. Scott then owned and operated his own claim service until retiring in 2012, even though he worked here and there after that.
Scott married the former Joan Winkler on August 9, 1980 and God blessed them with 44 years of marriage and their two children.
Scott loved to sing. He loved all kinds of music and found his biggest joy from singing Karaoke with friends throughout the years. He also sang with the Lakeland Barbershop Chorus with his dad, as well as several quartets. He and Joanie were also longtime members of the First United Methodist Church, their choir and the praise band. They were also longtime members of the Hymns and Hyrs Choir here in Rhinelander. Outside of the music in his life, Scott was a big Wisconsin sports fans, Packers, Badgers, Brewers and the Bucks.
Scott is survived by his wife Joan (Winkler), his daughter Stephanie Nelson, his son Jonathon (Jessica) Nelson, his grandsons Max and Lucas, his parents Jerome and Sharon Nelson, his sisters Debbie (Gary) Behm and Jill (James) Ohm, his brothers Craig (Lori) Nelson and Jerome Nelson Jr., many nieces and nephews, his Winkler family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Visitation for Scott was held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carlson Funeral Home. Memorial services were held on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 11 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Mark Klaisner officiating. Visitation was also be held for an hour, prior to the services at the church. Interment was to follow in the Newbold Memorial Cemetery.
