Library announces December programming

The public is invited to participate in the Rhinelander District Library’s fourth annual Gingerbread House Contest! Use your own materials or pick up a kit at the Rhinelander library while supplies last and build a marvelous gingerbread creation (A house? A barn? A spaceship? Whatever you want!). Entries must be constructed using edible, non-refrigerated materials and built on a sturdy base, library officials said in a press release. Entries are due at the library front desk by noon on Saturday, Dec. 7 in one of three categories: Pre-K-6th grade, 7th-12th grade, or Adult/Family. The winner for each category will be announced on Dec. 16 after a week of public voting.

Continue the holiday fun by making a Scandinavian Christmas Wreath on from 4 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4 in the library meeting room. Scandinavian Christmas decor focuses on simple, minimalist design. “Using that focus, we’ll create a Christmas wreath using two embroidery hoops, various greens, berries, and pinecones,” the release states. “Everything needed to make a wreath will be supplied at the class.” Twelve spaces are available. Registration is required to attend and will open two weeks prior to the event date. One registration per person. Learn the basics of streaming audio media on your smartphone with Bug Tussel on from 10 a.m. to noon, Thursday, Dec. 5. in the library meeting room. Understand the basic features of using a podcast and music app, including how to find podcasts and music, play and pause episodes and songs, and save songs and episodes for later. Have a smartphone? Bring it with you for hands-on practice. Don’t forget to bring your phone login and Apple or Google account credentials! Moderate tech experience is expected. Registration recommended.
