Eunice Mary Schmitz, 77, passed away peacefully at Rennes Rehabilitation Center, Rhinelander.
Eunice was born in Wausau on January 3, 1947, to Ernest and Helen (Filtz) Modrzejewski. She attended Holy Name parochial school and Newman Catholic High School. While there, she befriended Mary Kay Schmitz, who introduced Eunice to her brother, LeRoy Schmitz. They married on October 28, 1967, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Wausau and were happily married for 57 years. They went on to have four children, Matt, Todd, Scott and Aleta.
Although Eunice had quite a few jobs, including waitressing, cooking in the dietary department of the hospital, and operating a home daycare, her heart was for the home, and she was a fabulous homemaker. She was happiest in her kitchen, making a big bowl of potato salad for a family gathering, or making supper for her hungry kids. She was an excellent baker and would bring a delicious dessert to church events and received many compliments.
Jesus was number one in her life and her Christian faith was very important to her, all the way through to the end of her life. Eunice made sure her family attended church every Sunday. She had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing the hymns in church. And after church, she prompted the family to polka around the kitchen to the Sunday polka jamboree on the radio. Eunice loved to polka, as it was in her blood. She would often say, “Either you are Polish, or you want to be.”
Eunice is survived by her husband, Lee Schmitz (Lake Tomahawk); her children, Matt (Gail) Schmitz, Hazelhurst, Todd (Jenny) Schmitz, Hazelhurst, Scott (Kay) Schmitz, Hazelhurst, Aleta (Kyle) Plummer, Hazelhurst; her grandchildren, Jadon, Jayna, Seth, Eli and Jesse Schmitz and Max, Drew and Addi Mae Plummer. Eunice is preceded in death by her parents, Ernie and Helen Modrzejewski and her sisters, Phyllis Ramsey and Edna Brandt.
Her family is respecting Eunice’s wishes to have a private memorial for her immediate family.
Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness: and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
