Final Farewell

Sgt. Christie Kondzela of the Rhinelander Police Department salutes as the procession leading Assistant Fire Chief Dan Bauer to his final resting place passes by the city’s fire and police complex Thursday afternoon, Nov. 14, 2024 on its way to Northland Memorial Park. Bauer, who died of a heart attack on Nov. 2, was a member of the Rhinelander Fire Department for nearly 19 years. The procession included Rhinelander and Oneida County vehicles as well as trucks representing fire departments from across the Northwoods, including Florence where Bauer was raised. Firefighters from Merrill and Antigo staffed the Rhinelander department during Thursday’s service so that Bauer’s colleagues could mourn him.
