SDR drama department to present ‘Footloose, The Musical’

The School District of Rhinelander Drama Department has announced its fall production will be “Footloose, The Musical.”

Performances are set for Thursday, November 21 through Sunday, November 24 at the John and Dori Brown Performing Arts Center at Rhinelander High School, according to an SDR press release.

Based on the 1984 film, this explosive movie musical bursts onto the live stage, with dynamic new songs augmenting the powerhouse hits from its bestselling Oscar-nominated score.

“When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, he is prepared for the adjustment period at his new high school. But he’s not prepared for a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges pins a father longing for the son he lost against a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.” 

Kristin Higgins, co-director of “Footloose, The Musical” is excited to bring this high-action story to the RHS stage. 

“We've wanted to do this show for a few years now,” she said. “It's got a great story with popular tunes we all know. Everybody has worked hard to bring you an exciting experience.”

Performances of “Footloose, The Musical” will take place at the John and Dori Brown Performing Arts Center at Rhinelander High School on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 21-23 at 7 p.m., with a matinee on Sunday, November 24 at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
