RHS Sports recap: Saturday, Nov. 9


The Rhinelander High School girls’ swim team rolled to its sixth straight WIAA Division 2 sectional title on Saturday, winning seven events as it took the 14-team meet in a landslide, defeating runner-up Wittenberg-Birnamwood by a whopping 181 1/2 points.


The Hodags advanced 18 of their 21 entries on to the WIAA state meet, including their seven sectional champions — Celia Francis in the 200-yard individual medley and 100 backstroke, Rylee Mickevicius in the 200 freestyle, Ella Heck in the 100 breaststroke and its 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams.


Rhinelander got at-large bids with Ellyse Younker in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly; Lily Thorsen in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke; Vivian Lamers in the 50 and 100 freestyle; Emma Houg in the 200 individual medley; Heck in the 50 freestyle; Mickevicius and Millie Gruett in the 100 butterfly and Kiley Pooch in the 100 backstroke. 


The WIAA D2 state meet will take place this coming Friday in Waukesha.
