Minocqua man charged with possession of child porn
By River News Staff
A 21-year-old Minocqua man was charged with two counts of possession of child pornography Monday after a law enforcement search of his phone and laptop allegedly turned up approximately 47 photos and 423 videos depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Jacob Riley Collins made his initial appearance in Oneida County Circuit Court Tuesday afternoon in front of Judge Mike Schiek. The two Class D felonies carry a mandatory minimum sentence of three years in prison and a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.
According to the criminal complaint, the investigation began after the Oneida County sheriff’s office received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that led them to Collins.
When confronted by investigators, Collins admitted to viewing child pornography over the course of the last several years, the complaint states.
Judge Schiek set a total bond of $10,000, comprised of $2,000 in cash and an $8,000 signature bond.
If bail is posted, Collins will be allowed to use a laptop for work purposes only. He is also prohibited from having any unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18 and may not leave the state.
An adjourned initial appearance was set for 1:15 p.m. June 27.
