LdF town board OKs road proposal for LdF tribe
After meeting in closed session on May 22 with town attorney Greg Harrold and outside legal counsel Frank Kowalkowski, the Lac du Flambeau town board came to agreement on terms for a proposal to be presented to the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.
Town chairman Matt Gaulke told The Lakeland Times the proposal pertains to four roads — Annie Sunn Lane, Center Sugarbush Lane, East Ross Allen Lake Lane and Elsie Lake Lane — that have been at the center of an easement dispute between the town and tribe since Jan. 31, 2023, as portions of the roads have easements for tribal land that have been expired for a decade or more.
Gaulke said Harrold would be writing the proposal and then Gaulke will “take it over when he’s got it done.”
The proposal won’t be made public before he delivers it to the tribal council, he added.
Gaulke was asked if he had any idea regarding a time frame for next developments regarding the town’s road proposal to the tribe.
“No, I don’t,” he said.
