JWMS girls 2nd, boys 4th at conference track meet
The James Williams Middle School track team closed out its 2024 season Thursday, May 16 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference small school conference meet hosted by Tomahawk High School.
The meet featured middle schools from all current and future Great Northern Conference districts. Mosinee won the girls’ conference title while JWMS edged out Tomahawk by a half point for the runner-up spot. The Hodag boys wound up fourth, three points behind Mosinee for second and 1 1/2 points behind Tomahawk. Medford took the conference title.
The Hodag girls had a pair of individual conference champions. Katie Hazelton won the 200-meter hurdles and Tatiana Vadis was the champion in the shot put. The Hodag boys scored wins with Dean Gillingham in the 1,600 meters and Mathew Haselton in the 200 hurdles.
Olivia Eades was the runner up in both the girls’ 200 and 400 meters and took fourth in the 100. Josie Stella was second in the discus, Charlotte LeClair was third in both the 1,600 and the 400, MaKenzy Mess was third in the 100 hurdles and fifth in the 200 hurdles while Ellie Cummings tied for third in the high jump and fifth in the long jump. Addison Fish added a fourth-place showing in the long jump while the Hodag girls took third in the 4x100 and fourth in the 4x200.
Gillingham added a runner-up finish for the Hodags in the high jump and was fourth in the 800 meters. Haselton took second in the triple jump, Elias Puza was third in the 100, Elias Simonson was third in the discus, Cade Goffe was fourth in the triple jump, Kamden Kostrova took fourth in the discus and Colton Spalding was fifth in the 100.
The Hodag boys took second in both the 4x100 and 4x200, were fourth in the 4x400 and fifth in the 4x800.
