Randy Mark Swearingen, 75, died May 8, 2024 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital following an extended battle with various health issues. He was born August 17, 1948 to Mark and Frances (Lathrop) Swearingen in Rhinelander. He graduated from RUHS in 1967 and attended MIT in Milwaukee to study drafting. Randy was a hard worker and often held down second jobs while working as a draftsman. His skills led to a position of troubleshooter for a large boiler manufacturer, which gave him the opportunity to travel the country. He was offered a sales job in the boiler industry by one of his customers and the family moved to Michigan. Another job opportunity led him to the Chicago area a few years later. He purchased a Chem Dry franchise and led this business until his retirement.
Randy loved flying and was proud of earning his pilot's license. He flew as long as his health allowed and attended many EAA shows. He also loved golf and developed a love/hate relationship with the sport that lasted many years. Randy loved spending time near Lake Superior, especially Bond Falls and anywhere he could find a lighthouse. He was happiest spending time with family and friends, always leaving them laughing. He was known in the family for taking forever to say goodbye after a visit. It became known as the Swearingen goodbye.
He is survived by his love and life partner, Clayette Bullard, son Steven (Joanne Castro) Swearingen, daughters Michelle (Al) Wiggs, and Lauren (Rob Burgess) Swearingen, grandchildren Alix (Charley Pickering) Wiggs, Dani (David) Holycross, Otis and Harlow Burgess, great-grandson Jack Pickering, brother Tom (Beth Angle), stepsiblings Kerry Webster, Carla Webster, Paul (Rita) Webster, and Brenda Truitt, extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Anne, brothers Richard and John, stepmother Shirley, and stepsiblings Lane Webster and Linda Kofron.
Sadly, he didn't give us the Swearingen goodbye this time.
A celebration of life is planned for mid-August with graveside service and interment in the Northland Memorial Park Cemetery. Specific times will follow at www.carlsonfh.com. You may leave your private condolences for the family at www.carlsonfh.com.
