RHS Sports recap: Saturday, May 11
Baseball: Mosinee 10-6, Rhinelander 0-0
The RHS baseball team was shutout twice in a doubleheader at home Saturday against No. 2 (D2) Mosinee, losing 6-0 and 10-0 at Stafford Field.
Max Ratty gave up four runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings in the opening game. Dylan Vanderbunt was tagged for seven run on five hits over two innings in the Game 2 loss. The Hodags had only four hits combined between the two games. Ratty had a single in both contests.
Rhinelander (1-16, 1-9 Great Northern) hosts Tomahawk on Tuesday.
Girls’ soccer: Rhinelander 1-1-0, Waupaca Invite
The RHS girls’ soccer team split its two games in Waupaca on Saturday, defeating New London 8-2 before falling to Menasha 4-2.
Ella Miljevich had three goals and three assists in the New London game. Sophie Miljevich scored twice and the Hodags also got goals from Leah Weigel, Morgan Van Zile and Kiley Pooch. Miljevich and Van Zile scored in the Menasha contest.
Rhinelander (10-2-2, 5-1-0-1 Great Northern) travels to Antigo on Tuesday.
Boys’ tennis: Rhinelander 3-2, Sheboygan North Invite
The RHS boys’ tennis team went 3-2 overall Friday and Saturday at the Sheboygan North Invite.
After falling to host Sheboygan North 5-2 in Friday’s opening match, the Hodags rebounded with a 4-3 win over La Crosse Central and a 5-2 win over Port Washington to round out pool play on Friday. The Hodags edged Holmen 4-3 in their first match on Saturday before falling to West Bend West 5-2.
Joey Belanger and Dalton Fritz went undefeated on the weekend at No. 1 doubles, Aiden Ostermann and Michael Schiek were 4-1 at No. 3 doubles while Gavin Denis and Dawson Pontell were 3-2 at No. 2 doubles.
The Hodags (17-8, 5-0 Great Northern) round out dual meet play at home against Marshfield on Tuesday.
Golf: Rhinelander 3rd/19, Merrill Invite
The RHS golf team shot 333 on Saturday and finished third in the 19-team Merrill Best Ball Invite at Merrill Golf Club.
Brody Kowieski had four birdies on his round and shot a 2-over round of 74 to finish tied for second on the day. Sam Schoppe shot 77 to finish sixth. The two finished third as a best ball pairing. Blake Petroff shot 84 and Hank Kowieski shot a 98.
The Hodags are back in action Tuesday, competing in the fifth leg of the GNC golf tournament in Mosinee.
