Miller competes at state middle school bowling meet
Seventh grader Eli Miller represented Rhinelander at the Wisconsin Middle School Bowling Club state tournament Saturday, May 4 at Dale’s Weston Lanes.
Miller threw a three-game series of 555 to place 25th in Division B, finishing 69 pins outside the top three. Miller started with a 210 in the opening game of his series that included no open frames.
“It was his first ever clean game (all marks, no opens) and he was excited for it,” coach Cory Dellenbach said. “That was one of his goals heading into his first state meet. It was great seeing him get that clean game. He went over to his mom and grandma right away and had to tell them.”
He followed that up with a 179 in Game 2 and a 166 in Game 3. Overall, he had 10 strikes, 14 spares and 6 opens on the day.
“I know he wanted to finish better, but the competition was extremely tough and he bowled his heart out. He had a great day and should be very proud of how he bowled,” Dellenbach said. “I could tell he was nervous, even though he said he wasn’t, and I know there was excitement there too. He’s a great bowler and deserved to represent Rhinelander at state. He’s going to continue to improve and I know he’ll be back at state at the middle school and high school levels in years to come.
Miller was the Hodags’ lone representative at the WiMSBC state meet. He got there by finishing inside the top 15 in boys’ season-long fill percentage in District 9 play.
“I hope he comes back next year and tells his teammates about his experience and that it pushes them all to want to make it there next year as a team and individually,” Dellenbach added.
