RHS Sports recap: Tuesday, May 7
Girls’ soccer: Rhinelander 7, Mosinee 0
The Rhinelander High School girls’ soccer team breezed past Mosinee Tuesday night, winning 7-0 in the Hodag Dome. The Hodags led 4-0 at halftime and tacked on three more goals in the second.
Sophie Miljevich scored three times in the contest for Rhinelander. The Hodags also got goals from Morgan Van Zile, Lindsey Hoerchler, Vivian Lamers and Ella Miljevich. Leah Jamison added three assists in the contest.
Rhinelander outshot Mosinee 46-6 in the match. Mya Krouze stopped three shots in the shutout.
Rhinelander (8-1-2, 4-1-0-1 Great Northern) travels to Medford on Thursday.
Softball: Mosinee 17, Rhinelander 0
The Rhinelander High School softball team could not keep pace with top-ranked Mosinee, falling 17-0 Tuesday in the Hodag Dome. Mosinee scored seven times in the first, nine times in the second and tacked on one more in the third.
The Hodags had two hits in the game — a double by Kadyn Taylor in the second inning and an infield hit by Cassidy Lindner in the third. Kelsey Winter took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits with a five walks and a pair of strikeouts over three innings.
Rhinelander (1-13, 1-9 Great Northern) travels to Lakeland on Thursday.
Track: RHS girls 3rd/6, boys 5th/6, Tomahawk Invite
The Rhinelander High School track team rested some of its top athletes on Tuesday as it took third in the girls’ division and fifth in the boys’ division of the Hatchet Invite in Tomahawk.
A few other faces emerged on the night. Averie West swept the 100 and 300 hurdles in the meet while Olivia Ruetz won the girls’ 400 meters and Eva Heck claimed the high jump. Macy Myers was second in the 400 and Karly Gillingham took third in the long jump.
The Hodag boys did not claim any wins. They were led by a runner-up finish from Cyrus Leisure in the 400 and a third-place finish from Abe Barlog in the 200.
Rhinelander will host the Hodag Invitational Thursday at Mike Webster Stadium.
Baseball: Rhinelander at Wausau East, ppd.
Rhinelander’s non-conference baseball game scheduled for Tuesday at Wausau East was postponed due to rain. The teams will try to make up the contest on Thursday, which will be the next scheduled game for the Hodags (1-13, 1-7 Great Northern)
Boys’ tennis: Rhinelander at Medford, ppd.
A Great Northern Conference boys’ tennis dual between Rhinelander and Medford was pushed back a day from Tuesday to Wednesday due to rain.
Rhinelander (13-6, 4-0 Great Northern) can clinch the lead in the Great Northern Conference standings entering the conference tournament by taking at least three of the seven flights from the Raiders.
Golf: Rhinelander at GNC Meet No. 4, ppd.
The fourth leg of the Great Northern Conference golf tournament, hosted by Antigo at Bass Lake Golf Club in Deerbrook was postponed due to rain on Tuesday. The tentative make-up date posted by the conference is next Wednesday, May 15.
The next leg of the GNC tournament will take place on Friday, hosted by Northland Pines at Eagle River Golf Course.
