Youth Baseball

The Rhinelander Baseball Late Spring Dome tournament was held April 26-28 in the Hodag Dome. Teams competed in 9U-12U divisions. Rhinelander took first in the 12U bracket, defeating Lakeland in the championship game, 3-2.

JWMS track competes at home

The James Williams Middle School track team hosted another pentangular Monday, April 29 at Mike Webster Stadium. The Hodag girls took second in the five-team field while the Hodag boys took fourth. John Muir (Wausau West), Medford, Northland Pines and Phillips were the other teams in attendance.

The Hodag girls won three events on the night, led by seventh-grader Olivia Eades, who took the 200-meter dash, the 400-meter dash and was fourth in the 100. Katie Hazelton won the 200 hurdles and was fifth in the 200 meters. Ellie Cummings was the runner-up in the high jump while Tatiana Vadis took second in the shot put. Madelynn Treder took fourth in the high jump while Addison Fish was fourth in the long jump. Charlotte LeClair took fifth in both the 800 and the 400 while MaKenzy Mess was fifth in the 100 hurdles. The Hodags also took third in the 4x800 and the 4x100.

Mathew Haselton claimed the 200 hurdles for the Hodag boys, who also took the win in the 4x200 relay. Dean Gillingham was the runner-up in both the 800 and 1,600 meters and finished fifth in the high jump. Kamden Kostrova was second in both the triple jump and discus. Haselton added a fourth-place finish in triple jump and the Hodags were third in the 4x400 relay.


JV golfers 2nd in GNC meets

The Rhinelander High School JV golf team placed second in back-to-back Great Northern Conference meets held April 25 at Indianhead G.C. in Mosinee and April 26 at Inshalla C.C. in Tomahawk.

Samuel Strong and Chase West paced the Hodags with rounds of 50 in the Indianhead match, Will Gretzinger shot 53, Drake Nelson sho 54, Ryan Morien shot 50 and Drayke Arrowood shot 63.

Strong finished feed for second overall at Inshalla with a round go 44 while Dylan Shefveland shot 46 and Nelson carded a 49. Gretzinger shot 51, Morien shot 56 and Arrowood shot 61.
