Badger Midgets to return to Eagle River Speedway in 2024

The last time the Badger Midgets rolled into Eagle River Speedway the track was called K-G Raceway. This was back in 1984. Beaver Dam’s Brad Weber was the winner.

Fast forward 40 years. After a several decade absence the popular Badger Midgets will return to the third-mile, clay oval nestled deep in Wisconsin’s Northwoods for a Saturday night special event July 20. The popular open-wheeled division will be joined on that Saturday evening by the 300 and 600 micro sprints along with the Dairyland Vintage Racers and the track’s own ERS late models.

“We actually tried to get the Badger Midgets here a year ago but the schedule just didn’t work out,” said track promoter Pat Zdroik. “We’re looking forward to giving our race fans something they haven’t seen here in more than 40 years. It’s exciting.”

According to Wisconsin racing historian Bob Schafer, the Badger Midgets have made a total of four appearances at the Eagle River oval since the track first opened up in 1975. The wingless open-wheeled class made two appearances in 1976 when the track was named K-G Raceway. The midgets made one stop at the track in 1977 and one other stop years later in 1984.

The Badger Midget Auto Racing Association (BMARA) was founded in 1936. In 2024 the sanctioning body will celebrate their 88th year of hosting races across Wisconsin.

For more information on the BMARA you can check their website at bmara.com or their Facebook page called BMARA Racing.

Specific start times for this Saturday night special will be announced in the future.
