Big BMX weekend

Some threatening weather did not stop the Hodag BMX club from hosting its big doubleheader weekend Saturday and Sunday at West Side Park in Rhinelander. Saturday’s event was the club’s Badger State Games race as well as its Race For Life in which it raises funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Sunday served as the track’s qualifier race for the Wisconsin state championships, which will be held in late August. The riders sat through a roughly one-hour rain delay on Sunday but still got the races in as scheduled.

“Thank you to everyone one who attended today and put trust in us to give you a great race, despite the weather. We hope you had a blast,” track operator Robbie Deede posted on the track’s Facebook page. “A huge thank you to our volunteers who continue to make our venue better every year. You guys killed it.”

The track, in its 25th year of operation, will continue to hold local races on Mondays and Wednesdays through the month of June; Mondays and most Fridays through July and August and Fridays through October.
