Barry Castonguay

Barry Castonguay, age 81, of Rhinelander, died on June 15, 2024 at Aspirus Hospital in Rhinelander. He was born on April 22, 1943, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Mervin and Luella (Oakley) Castonguay.

Barry had been employed by Rhinelander Paper Company for nearly 30 years before taking an early retirement at 55 years old. Soon after he became employed by Bowens Bus Service where he spent almost 20 years. He enjoyed his trips out west to South Dakota, Arizona and Nevada. He also enjoyed visiting the casino, hunting with his daughter and fishing. In his younger years he was a talented pool player, a phenomenal wood worker, and mechanic. He was a wonderful storyteller and had a great sense of humor. He had a deep love for his family and his dog, Buffy.

Barry is survived by his daughters Lisa (William) Beall, Stacy Castonguay and Jody (Christopher) Hurst, his grandchildren Nicholas Beall, Savanna (Mark) Senoraske, Alexandria (Samuel) Shick, Tyler Castonguay, Kaylee Vazquez and Brody Denton, his great-grandchildren Taylynn and Brynlee Senoraske and Simon Shick, his brother Dale Fredrick, other family and many friends.  

He was preceded in death by his wife Deborah on April 14, 2022.

There will be a visitation for Barry on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 9 to 11 a.m. with funeral services following at 11 a.m., all at the Carlson Funeral Home. Interment will take place in the Forest Home Cemetery.
