Rhinelander kicked of play in the Wausau Summer boys’ basketball league Tuesday, June 11 by facing a couple of Great Northern Conference foes at Wausau West High School. The Hodags split their two games, falling to Northland Pines 50-37 before defeating Lakeland 52-37.

The Hodags rallied from a 14-point deficit against Pines in the first half to pull within 25-19 at half and then tied the game at 31-all midway through the second. Pines responded by scoring the next seven points, which were part of a closing 19-6 run.

Rhinelander led virtually wire-to-wire against Lakeland, opening up a 16-4 lead over the first eight minutes and a 32-16 lead at the break. The Hodags led by as many as 21 points late in the second half, cruising to the win.

Junior-to-be Devon Feck led the Hodags in both contests. He was 7 of 15 from beyond the arc and scored a game-high 25 points against Northland Pines. He added 17 points against Lakeland while fellow junior-to-be Jatyn Barkus scored 12.

The Wausau League will continue Tuesday nights throughout the summer.
