Historical Society launches new website
The Rhinelander Historical Society has launched a new and improved website.
In addition to a virtual tour of the museum and information on each of its rooms, the site now includes an extensive collection of historical information, museum officials announced in a press release.
“RhinelanderHistoricalSociety.org now contains hundreds of articles and photos about early Rhinelander,” the release states. “If you would like to learn more about the first white settler in the area, Martin Lynch, you can read a story written by his great-granddaughters. If you would like to learn more about the first resident of Rhinelander, John Curran, you can read the book ‘The John Curran Story’ on the website. Would you like to learn more about the Brown Family that created Rhinelander? Information on the four brothers is there, too. Have you wondered how Rhinelander got its name? You can read about Mr. Rhinelander and the Milwaukee, Lake Shore and Western Railroad. Did Oneida County ever have a female sheriff? That information is included along with a list of all the sheriffs. Could you buy a hamburger in Rhinelander during the 1960s for only 19 cents? Check out the information on Jay’s Drive-In.”
The Rhinelander Historical Society Museum is open Tuesday- Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., from Memorial Day to Labor Day and anytime by appointment.
