Edward “Ed” J. Simon
It is with deep sadness and much love that we mourn Edward (Ed) J. Simon, age 57, on his unexpected passing at his home in Rhinelander on May 19, 2024.
He was born December 20, 1966, to Earl & Betty Simon in Rhinelander. He graduated from Rhinelander Union High School in 1985, after graduation he enlisted in the military, served in the Army, and was stationed in Germany. After serving in the Army for 3 years as an U.S. Army Cavalry Scout, Ed returned to Rhinelander and was employed with the Rhinelander Paper Company until the time of his death, (34 years). He served as the steel workers union vice president, and as a union steward for many years.
Ed was passionate about the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Ed's passion for fishing lead to him becoming an expert custom fishing lure maker. Over many years he perfected many lure styles including the Thunderhead and Snodlow Flaptail musky lures. He was especially proud of inventing a lure with a custom embedded window photograph. This embedded window photo allowed families to celebrate and remember their fishing adventures. These lures are what Ed hoped would be his lasting legacy. Ed's Facebook page is still available for you to see wonderful lure-making videos.
He is loved and missed by: daughter Zoe Jones Simon of La Crosse, son Eli Jones Simon of Rhinelander, mother Betty Simon of Stevens Point, brother Bob (Lynn) Simon of Rhinelander, brother Ron (Sharon) Simon of lola, sister Sue (Dan) Lukarich of Rhinelander and brother Jeff (Simone) Simon of Coon Rapids Minn. and his beloved dog, Brutus.
He was preceded in death by father, Earl Simon.
A celebration of life is planned for 11 a.m. on June 15, 2024 at the Pizza Haven in Rhinelander. You may leave your private condolences for the family at www.carlsonfh.com.
