Mellen man dies Sunday in FDXCR race on Minocqua’s west side
A 28 year-old man participating in a dirt bike race on Minocqua’s west side was killed Sunday.
According to the incident report from the Minocqua police department, Keyan Stricker of Mellen lost control of the dirt bike he was operating and struck a tree.
He was transported by helicopter to Howard Young Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by Oneida County medical examiner Crystal Schaub.
The organization Four Wheeler Dirtbike Cross Country Racing (FDXCR) was hosting a racing event on Sunday.
The race, which features all-terrain vehicle (ATV) racing as well as dirtbike racing, was sanctioned and handled by the FDXCR, which late Monday morning published a Facebook post regarding the incident.
“With the family’s permission we wanted to share a post letting everyone know that the Adult Bike rider who was air lifted from our race yesterday sadly passed away,” the FDXCR Facebook post read. “All of us at FDXCR are devastated, we send our deepest condolences to his children, girlfriend and family.”
The FDXCR’s Facebook post stated the organization’s June 30 race will be dedicated to Stricker.
Lakeland Times publisher Gregg Walker is a partner in Big D LLC, which owns the land, Area 31 UTV Park, the FDXCR held Sunday’s race on.
