Inventing and spreading conspiracy theories
To the Editor:
I used to think that newspapers exist to gather facts and distribute them [hopefully in an impartial manner] to inform the people of the community. Now we see [River News, 31 May] that inventing and spreading conspiracy theories is first-page work.
What does this conspiracy consist of? A number of public-spirited people are attending public meetings, sharing information, and filing open-record requests. Horrible! Obviously nefarious!
How soon can we expect to see a similar column that describes a mysterious cabal, operating from the newspaper offices … that does all those same actions — for unknown purposes? What would happen if that “secret” were revealed?
