Boys’ tennis: WIAA state meet
The run for Rhinelander seniors Joey Belanger and Dalton Fritz at the WIAA Division 1 boys’ doubles state tennis tournament ended Friday morning in Madison with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to 13th-seeded Andrew Werner and Brady Hildreth of Neenah in the round of 32.
It marked the second straight appearance in the round of 32 for Belanger, who made it there in 2023 with teammate Layne Roeser.
Belanger and Fritz finished the year with a 21-6 record in doubles.
Girls’ track: WIAA state meet
Neither of Rhinelander’s entires that competed Friday in the WIAA Division 2 state track meet in La Crosse qualified for Saturday’s finals.
Sophomore Aila Bergman finished 16th out of 18 runners in the preliminaries of the girls’ 100-meter hurdles (16.37 seconds). She missed the top 10 and a spot in the finals by 0.35 seconds. The girls’ 4x100-meter relay team of Lena Timphus, Violet Biolo, Olivia Ruetz and Lexi Bishop took 15th out of 16 teams in the preliminaries (51.01).
Rhinelander has one more entry at state. Libbey Buchmann will compete Saturday morning in the D2 girls’ discus where she comes in seeded fifth in the event.
