Outdoor balance training offered at the YMCA
The YMCA of the Northwoods in Rhinelander is offering a new class, “Outdoor Balance Training for Men & Women” taught by retired physical therapist John Sykes.
The purpose of the outdoor balance training class is to address challenging activities that require more advanced balance skills, such as uneven/unlevel surfaces, rapidly changing surfaces, or soft to firm and any combination thereof.
“If you enjoy hunting, hiking, gardening or other outdoor activities but are unsure of your footing at times, this class will give you the confidence you need to continue to enjoy the outdoors,” YMCA officials said in a press release announcing the class.
This class will consist of basic balance exercises, progressive in nature, with an emphasis on safety and proper technique. Classes will be held both indoors and outdoors to give participants practice in natural outdoor situations. Pre and post testing will be performed based on standardized testing, and participants will be given a home exercise program for practice, progressing, and improvement.
The six-week session will be held Mondays and Thursdays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Aug. 5 through Sept. 12.
The fee for Y members is $15 and $50 for the general public. Space is limited Contact Marilyn at 715-362-9622 ext. 118 to register.
