Brody Kowieski wins Jr. Tour event in Eagle River
By By River News Staff
Brody Kowieski, a senior-to-be at Rhinelander High School, shot a 2-over par round of 74 Sunday to win a Wisconsin PGA Junior Tour event at Eagle River Golf Course.
The event was part of a mini-Northern swing that included an event at Timber Ridge Golf Club in Minocqua on Monday.
Kowieski overcame one slip-up — a quadruple bogey on the par-4 11th hole — as he played the remainder of the back nine in 3-under and beat out Lakeland’s Davis Kock by three strokes for both overall medalist honors and the title in the boys’ 16-18 division. His round included birdies on the par-4 third and par-3 13th holes as well as an eagle on the par-5 17th.
Kowieski followed that up with a round of 79 Monday as he placed fourth in his division at Timber Ridge. His round included birdies on the third and 14th holes.
Four Rhinelander golfers teed it up in Eagle River Sunday. Hank Kowieski, Brody’s younger brother, shot 90 as he tied for 19th in the boys’ 16-18 division. Grant Gremban was 16th in the boys’ 14-15 division with a 97 and Max Miljevich took sixth in the boys’ 12-13 division with a 101.
Hank Kowieski recorded birdies on the second and 16th holes Monday as he shot 87 and tied for 14th in the Timber Ridge event. Miljevich was 11th in his division, shooting 106.
The Eagle River and Timber Ridge events are the closest events for area golfers on the Junior Tour, which runs from June-August. The tour stoped at Hayward Golf Club yesterday and will visit Wausau Country Club July 29.
