Donald Heeren

Donald A. Heeren, age 73, of Schofield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Our House Memory Care, Wausau.

Donald was born on December 9, 1950, in Wausau, to Hugo and Betty Heeren. After graduating from DC Everest Senior High, he went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree in education. He retired from the Rhinelander school district in 2010 after 30 years of teaching. Donald met Carol M. Olah at a polka dance and they were united in marriage on December 27, 1991 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. They have enjoyed polka dancing together ever since. Donald also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a true John Deere Man and was also a goat and crop farmer.

Donald is survived by his wife, Carol, of Schofield; stepchildren Barb (Bruce) Klieforth of Abbotsford, Rodney (Jessica) Held of Edgar and Todd (Tracie) Held of Evansville; stepgrandchildren Chelsea Koch, Bailey (Jesse) Harder, Sloane Held, Chayse Held, Rebecca Held, Samantha Held and Kyle Held; step-great-grandchildren Hunter, Jaxson, Morgan, Braxton and Oscar Michael; siblings Ruth Johnson, Delores (Mike) Wiernasz, DuAnne (Kent) Kirkby-Heeren and Donna (Steve) Queram; and many nieces and nephews

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Betty, and brother-in-law, Neal Johnson.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at noon at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Thursday.
