Kowieski misses cut at State Am
Rhinelander High School senior-to-be Brody Kowieski competed in the 123rd Wisconsin State Amateur golf championship Monday and Tuesday in Waukesha. Kowieski missed the halfway cut in the 72-hole tournament, finishing at 30-over par for his first two rounds.
Kowieski shot 88 during Monday’s opening round at The Legend at Merrill Hills. He shot 48 on his opening nine as he failed to record a par. He settled in a bit on the back nine, coming home in 40. That side included four pars and a birdie on the par-4 18th hole.
Kowieski then shot 84 in Tuesday’s second round. He started on the 10th hole and played the first nine in 41 with five pars. He came home in 43 with pars on three of his final five holes.
Kowieski qualified for the State Am by placing third in a qualifying tournament at Wausau Country Club last month.
Fond du Lac’s Joe DuChateau sat at 6-under and held a four-stroke lead at the halfway point of the tournament, which concluded Thursday after press time for today’s edition. The cutline fell at 12-over 154.
