Aspirus reports uptick in COVID cases
The Aspirus Health Care System has announced it has observed a recent increase in COVID-19 cases consistent with trends reported across regions of the country. This increase aligns with nationwide patterns, as warmer months now bring not only heat but also a rise in respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19, according to an Aspirus press release.
Throughout the summer, Aspirus data has shown a steady increase in the percentage of positive COVID-19 tests, rising from 2.0% in early May to over 10.0% in early July, the release states. This pattern mirrors the general uptick in cases seen in several regions of the U.S.
Steven Phillipson, MD, is the Aspirus System Director for Hospital Medicine.
“While our latest COVID-19 test data indicates a rise in positive cases, this is not a dramatic public health concern but rather a reminder of the virus’s continued presence,” he said. “We are prepared and equipped to handle this increase and continue to prioritize the safety and health of our community.”
Hospitalizations have remained relatively stable despite the rise in positive cases.
The Aspirus system has seen a total of 151 admissions due to COVID-19 this calendar year through the beginning of July with no significant increase since positive tests began to increase.
“Preventive measures and vaccinations remain our best tools in combating the spread of COVID-19,” Phillipson said. “We encourage everyone, especially those who are vulnerable or have not yet received their booster shots, to take these steps to protect themselves and others.”
Vaccinations, boosters and the utilization of preventative measures such as masking and social distancing, especially in crowded and indoor settings can help slow the spread of COVID-19.
Local public health officials have essentially echoed Phillipson’s assessment. More information about prevention methods can be found at CDC.gov.
