Waterway below Eagle River bridge temporarily closed for vehicle retrieval

The waterway below the Bridge Street bridge in Eagle River was temporarily closed to marine traffic Friday morning so that a vehicle could be retrieved from the water, according to the Eagle River Police Department.

The department reported the initial closure at approximately 6:30 a.m. Friday.

“We are investigating a traffic crash and are attempting to retrieve a vehicle from the waterway,” department officials said in a press release.

At approximately 9 a.m. an updated press release advised that the northern channel was now open to traffic. The southern channel below the Bridge Street bridge was to remain closed until the DNR completes its cleanup effort, the release said.

The police department did not immediately release any other information about the crash.
