Project North, a collaborative music, art, and sustainability festival, will return to downtown Rhinelander on Sept. 20-21.

Submissions are currently being sought for Community Projections, the 10-Second Film Contest, the Songwriting Contest, and the Eco Village, organizers said in a press release.

“Community Projections is now in its second year at Project North, and this year’s theme is ‘Inter-connected,’” the release states. “This interactive art installation will be projected on a building in the center of the festival grounds. All eligible submissions will be incorporated into a looping installation that is precisely mapped onto the unique architecture of the building. Submissions can be a short video or image using the template provided at projectnorth.org/projections/. The submission deadline is September 10.”

The 10-Second Film Contest is also set to return. This unique format allows anyone to participate and have fun with this year’s theme, “Roots.” All eligible entries will be screened on loop during the festival, with three winners announced on Saturday, Sept. 21. This year’s contest is sponsored by Northwoods Filmmaking Society, and the submission deadline is Sept. 1. Contest guidelines and submission information can be found at projectnorth.org/tenseconds/.

Submissions are also being sought for the Project North Songwriting Contest. Contestants may perform as a solo or duo, and each song submitted must be the contestant’s original work. Eight finalists will be asked to perform at the festival, with the winner performing on the main stage. This year’s contest is sponsored by Northland Music Center, and the submission deadline is Aug. 26.

More details can be found at projectnorth.org/songwriting-contest/.

Lastly, Project North seeks Eco Village participants to share activities, ideas, and information on how festival attendees can live more eco-conscious lifestyles. More information about Project North Eco participation can be found at projectnorth.org/experiences/sustainability/.

In 2024, Project North will be hosted by presenting partners ArtStart Rhinelander and WXPR Public Radio. Supporting partners include the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA), Nicolet College, and The Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce.

Project North is made possible through funding from the Rhinelander Tourism & Marketing Committee, the Rhinelander Community Foundation, and St. Matthias’ Thrift Shop.
