Second complaint filed in wake of vandalism spree

Additional charges have been filed against a Rhinelander 17-year-old in connection with a vandalism spree at the Rhinelander Country Club in late May. According to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday, June 26, Landon M. Oldham-Schulte is facing 15 new counts, five of which are felonies.

The new charges include intentionally contributing to the delinquency of a minor (felony), three counts of taking/driving a vehicle (golf cart) without owner’s consent (all felonies), one count of criminal damage to property (felony), two counts of misdemeanor criminal damage to property, four counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct and four counts of misdemeanor theft.

The initial complaint, filed on June 3, charged him with felony burglary, felony theft, intentionally contributing to the delinquency of a minor (felony) and misdemeanor criminal damage to property.

The burglary and theft charges are related to a separate incident involving a break-in and burglary at a local smoke shop the same evening.

Michael Anthony Youngs, 30, is also facing charges with respect to the smoke shop burglary.

A 15-year-old was also referred to the Department of Social Services for adjudication with respect to the burglary. That individual was also expected to face additional charges with respect to the vandalism at the country club.

As the River News previously reported, Rhinelander police were called to the Rhinelander Country Club at approximately 6:14 a.m. Thursday, May 30 after several golf carts were found damaged in a suspected vandalism incident.

Several boats belonging to club members were also damaged.

A total of six golf carts were damaged and one had to be retrieved from Boom Lake, according to club pro Kevin Schoppe.

“At this point we have all six golf carts back at the club,” Schoppe advised after the incident was reported. “Three were damaged on the property with one flipped over and one left in Boom Lake. Three were taken off the property. All are not usable.”

According to the new complaint, a total of 11 boats were damaged. Fire extinguishers were discharged “leaving fire extinguisher powder all over the interior of the boats,” the complaint said.

One fire extinguisher was also found in the lake.

In addition, the club reported two newly planted trees on Hole 1 and four sand trap rakes were damaged when the vandals rode golf carts over them. According to police reports attached to the complaint, Oldham-Schulte admitted that he and the juvenile hot-wired the carts and drove them around the golf course and Hodag Park.

Oldham-Schulte made his initial appearance on the first complaint on June 3. At that time, a $10,000 signature bond was set and an adjourned initial appearance was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. July 1.

According to court records, Oldham-Schulte was scheduled to make his initial appearance on the new charges at the same time.

Youngs was also scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Those hearings took place after this edition went to press.

If convicted of all eight felony counts, Oldham-Schulte faces up to 48 years in prison.
