Rustin “Rusty” Lee Callahan Dixon

Rustin “Rusty” Lee Callahan Dixon, 74, of Rhinelander, passed away suddenly on June 24, 2024, at Tomahawk Health Services in Tomahawk. She was born on May 11, 1950, in Illinois.

Rusty was the daughter of Helen Catherine Mackie and Charles Cresson Callahan. She grew up in Illinois and attended Woodstock High School. While attending Northland College in Ashland she met her husband, Jack Merrill Dixon. Rusty and Jack later settled in Rhinelander, where they raised their two children.

As a registered nurse, Rusty cared deeply for her patients, and they, in turn, cared deeply for her. Her dedication and compassion left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Rusty is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Lynn Dixon; her son, Leon Merrill Dixon; her sister, Dustin Lynn Mackie; and her brother, Justin Luke Callahan. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack.

A lifelong learner, Rusty returned to school after retirement and earned her BSN from Grand Canyon University. She was an avid bridge player and traveler, with a passion for cruising to many ports of call near and far. Rusty’s love of animals led her to adopt many furry family members, who enjoyed lives full of love throughout her lifetime.

A celebration of life to honor Rusty will be held on Saturday, July 27 at 10 a.m. at 4811 Prairie Trail in Rhinelander. Rusty will be laid to rest next to her husband, Jack, at the Northwoods National Cemetery in Harshaw. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Oneida County Humane Society and the Alzheimer's Association.

Rusty will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the lasting impact she made on the lives of those who knew her.
