Boys’ basketball: Rhinelander 60, Northland Pines 43
The Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team jumped ahead early and cruised to a 60-43 victory at Northland Pines on Friday night.
The Hodags led 27-13 at the break and pushed the lead to more than 20 at times in the second half as they completed the regular season sweep of the Eagles.
Will Gretzinger had 15 points to lead the Hodags while Truman Lamers and Devon Feck had 11 points each.
Rhinelander (9-6, 6-1 Great Northern), which moved into a first place tie in the GNC thanks to Mosinee’s loss at Medford on Friday, will host Three Lakes on Tuesday.
Girls’ basketball: Rhinelander 64, Northland Pines 50
The RHS girls’ basketball team inched away late in the first half and early in the second to defeat Northland Pines 64-50 Friday night in Rhinelander.
The Hodags used a 16-5 run over the final 5 1/2 minutes of the first to take a 30-21 lead at the break and then opened the second half on a 12-4 run to push the lead to 17. Pines never got within single digits the rest of the way.
Lily Treder led the Hodags with 23 points and Aubryn Clark added 22.
Rhinelander (12-5, 7-1 Great Northern) hosts Wausau East on Monday.
