Rhinelander Swim Club hosts meet

The Rhinelander Swim Club hosted a Northern Lakes Aquatic Conference meet at the Heck Family Community Pool Saturday, Jan. 20. Seven clubs were in attendance and the Hodags had more than 60 swimmers participate in the meet.

Middle school wrestling

The James Williams Middle School wrestling team hosted a six-team Central Wisconsin Wrestling Conference meet at the JWMS gymnasium Monday, Jan. 22.

RBA 6th graders win again

The Rhinelander Basketball Association’s sixth-grade boys’ A team took first at the Merrill tournament Saturday, Jan. 20, going 3-0 on the day. The Hodags beat Wausau East 58-31, Marshfield 54-12 and Stevens Point Pacelli 43-25. The team is now 7-0 on the season. Pictured front row, from left to right, are Boston Hopfensperger, Mason Hauser and Coltyn Anderson. Middle School Nordic competes in Iola

The Hodag Nordic Middle School team competed in the freestyle portion of the Iola Invite Saturday, Jan. 20 at Iola Winter Sports Club. The Hodag boys finished ninth out of 10 complete teams and the Hodag girls finished 10th out of 10. 

Aaron Calhoun led the Hodag boys’ taking 27th overall, covering a 3-kilometer course in 12 minutes, 33 seconds. Samuel Loomis finished 46th (14:08), Douglas Hartmann was 48th (14:14), Jacob McFarland was 59th (15:43), Alexander Rusch was 62nd (16:17) and Korbin Skubal finished 63rd (16:20).

Pearl Calhoun led the Hodag girls. She was 30th overall with a time of 14:17. Kelsie Skubal was 40th (14:46), Noelle Mayo was 44th (15:12) and Scarlet Hartmann finished 61st (17:56).

Middle school Alpine opens season


The Rhinelander/Northland Pines middle school Alpine ski and snowboard team opened its season with a meet at Christie Mountain in Bruce Monday, Jan. 22.


In boys’ skiing, Henry Schmitz had three top-five runs and finished fifth overall on the day. Michael Brunette was eight, Calvin Margelofsky was 11th and Jacob McFarland was 13th. Jessica Linn was the runner-up overall in girls’ skiing. She placed in the top three in all of her runs, including a second-place showing in slalom. Riley Butler finished seventh. 


Kamden Kostrova and Carter Shimkus finished 1-2 for the Hodags in boys’ snowboarding.
