Jerome Lawrence “Larry” Nellis

Jerome Lawrence “Larry” Nellis, age 82, of Sugar Camp, died on January 22, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 28, 1941, in Zion, Illinois, the son of John and Joanna (Myers) Nellis.

Larry was born and raised in Zion and attended schools there, graduating from Zion-Benton High School. He worked for his uncle at J.R. Myers Inc. as a mechanic for heavy equipment. 

Larry married the former Juanita Hayes on November 18, 1961, in Zion and they were blessed with 62 wonderful years together. In April of 2002, he and Juanita moved to the Sugar Camp area where they have been since. Larry was a member of the Community Bible Church in Eagle River, and in his spare time he loved being outside mowing the grass and or shoveling snow.

Larry is survived by his wife Juanita, his son Russell (Kelli) Nellis, his three grandchildren Shalea, Brianna and Ryann, his six great-grandchildren, his sister Marcia (Ed) Heuss, other family and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carol White.
