RHS Sports recap: Thursday, Jan. 18
Boys’ swimming: Rhinelander 112, Tomahawk 30; Rhinelander 111, Medford 41
The Rhinelander High School boys’ swim team won all 11 events on Thursday as it swept a double dual from Tomahawk (112-30) and Medford (111-41) in Tomahawk.
Charlie Antonuk was a four-event winner for the Hodags. He won the 200-yard individual medley, the 500 freestyle and was on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams. Mathias Fugle claimed the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke, Judson O’Malley won the 100 backstroke, Brock Arrowood took the 100 freestyle, Zacha King won the 200 freestyle and Shawn Denis took the 100 butterfly.
The Hodags will host Ashwaubenon in a non-conference dual on Friday.
Wrestling: Tomahawk 54, Rhinelander 30; Wausau East 48, Rhinelander 24
Rhinelander’s Owen Kurtz picked up his 100th career win on Thursday, but it was not enough for the Hodags, who dropped both legs of a triangular, falling to Tomahawk 54-30 and Wausau East 48-24 at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
Kurtz claimed win No. 100 in the Tomahawk dual, needing only 22 seconds to pin Tomahawk’s Skyler Harper Dalvig. He would add another pin in the dual against Wausau East as he improved to 34-1 on the year.
Reid Schultz (285), Cyrus Leisure (144), Aiden Ostermann (150) and Logan Schwinger (175) also picked up pins in the Tomahawk match. Schwinger added a pin against Wausau East while Hoyt Dantoin (113) and Schultz received forfeits.
Rhinelander (4-7, 1-4 Great Northern) travels to Wausau East for an invite on Saturday.
