Scott Campbell of Rhinelander, a volunteer and light display creator with the Lights of the Northwoods group, was honored with a Jefferson Award Friday, Jan. 12. 2024 at the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry. He was nominated by fellow Lights volunteers Bill Freudenberg and Don Hoppe, the group’s president. Campbell designs and constructs a number of the light displays installed at Hodag Park during the holiday season. The drawing shown on the cardboard represents the beginnings of a design for a display to be installed next year. Campbell and his wife, Linda, are pictured here with, from left to right, Freudenberg, Rhinelander Area Food Pantry executive director Guy Hansen and Hoppe. The food pantry benefits from the annual light display as visitors are asked to bring non-perishable food donations for the pantry. The Jefferson Awards, co-founded by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, recognize public and community service. A full story on the award will be published in an upcoming edition of the River News.
