Boys’ basketball: Rhinelander 79, Lakeland 54
The Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team pulled away in the second half on Friday and won a battle of Great Northern Conference unbeatens, defeating Lakeland 79-54 in Minocqua.
The Hodags closed the first half on a 16-6 run to take a 32-23 lead to the break and then steadily pulled away in the second half. Truman Lamers scored a game-high 22 points. Will Gretzinger had 21 and Evan Shoeder added 15 points and eight rebounds as the Hodags shot just under 50% from the field. Jalend Cobb had 17 to lead Lakeland.
Rhinelander (7-4, 4-0 Great Northern) will face another conference unbeaten on Tuesday as Mosinee comes to the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
Girls’ basketball: Lakeland 77, Rhinelander 34
The Rhinelander High School girls’ basketball team fell behind early and never recovered, falling to Lakeland 77-34 in a battle of GNC unbeatens Friday in Minocqua.
The T-Birds started on a 12-0 run and then used a 20-3 run midway through the half to help them take a 48-24 lead at the half. Rhinelander made only three field goals in the second half as the lead continued to balloon.
Aubryn Clark and Lily Treder each scored 14 for the Hodags. Kristina Ouimette had 21, leading four T-Birds in double figures.
Rhinelander (9-4, 4-1 Great Northern) travels to Mosinee on Tuesday.
