RHS Sports recap: Tuesday, Jan. 2

Boys’ basketball: Marshfield 70, Rhinelander 34

Marshfield led wire-to-wire Tuesday night as the RHS boys’ basketball team suffered a 70-34 loss in non-conference play in Marshfield.

The Tigers used a 22-6 run at the end of the half to go up 42-19 at the break and continued to pull away in the second as the Hodags shot only 30% from the field.

Truman Lamers paced Rhineladner with 12 points while Will Gretzinger added seven. Brooks Hinson led Marshfield with 28 as the Tigers shot 52.7% from the field.

Rhinelander (6-4, 3-0 Great Northern) travels to Lakeland on Friday.

Girls’ basketball: Rhinelander 75, Wisconsin Rapids 56

Rhinelander used a late 15-3 run Tuesday night to pull away and earn a 75-56 road win in non-conference play at Wisconsin Rapids. 

The Hodags started the game on a 17-4 run and were up 36-24 at the half, but saw Rapids cut the lead to 50-44 with 7:50 remaining before answering with a decisive spurt.

Rhinelander had four players in double digits led by Aubryn Clark with 18. Morgan Van Zile and Lily Treder each scored 17 while Leah Jamison chipped in 12. Gabby Neilitz paced Rapids with 21.

Rhinelander (9-3, 4-0 Great Northern) travels to Lakeland on Friday.
