Boys’ basketball: Rhinelander 65, Hayward 40

The Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team raced out early lead and cruised Tuesday night, defeating Hayward 65-40 in the WIAA tournament opener at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium. 

The Hodags led 42-21 at the break and the lead never dropped below 20 in the second half.

Devon Feck made his first five shots from the floor as he scored 14 in the first half and led all scorers with 16 in the game. Will Gretzinger added 15 for Rhinelander. Miles McCallum paced Hayward with nine.

Rhinelander (16-9, 10-2 Great Northern) will face fourth-seeded Rice Lake on the road Friday night in the regional finals.
