Girls’ basketball: Green Bay Southwest 61, Rhinelander 35
The Rhinelander High School girls’ basketball team fell behind early and could never recover on Friday night, falling 61-35 to Green Bay Southwest in a WIAA Division 2 tournament game at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
The Trojans used a pair of 12-0 runs to take a 36-15 lead at halftime. Rhinelander cut the lead to 15 midway through the second but got no closer.
Aubryn Clark led the Hodags with 15 points despite being saddled with foul trouble much of the game, picking up her fourth personal foul with 4:46 remaining in the first half. Emma Szarowicz had 16 to lead four Trojans in double figures.
Rhinelander ends its season with a 16-9 overall record.
Gymnastics: Rhinelander 6th/8, WIAA D2 Sectionals
The season came to an end for the Rhinelander High School gymnastics team Friday evening as it scored 104.65 points and took sixth in a WIAA Division 2 sectional meet in Antigo.
The Hodags had one near miss in terms of individual state qualification. Freshman Alexis Smith tied for sixth on the vault (8.35), missing the top five and a trip to Wisconsin Rapids by 0.05 points.
Smith was Rhinelander’s top finisher in the all-around (17th, 27.725). Karly Gillingham was 20th, Samantha Aschenbrenner was 23rd and Wendy Fronk finished 29th.
