Lake Tomahawk Lions recycle eyeglasses
The Lake Tomahawk Lions Club has the unique distinction of being the only club in the state that performs eyeglass recycling and processes donations given to any Lions Club in Wisconsin.
“This service project started in 1995 and, as of 2023, over 250,000 pairs of glasses have been washed and sorted,” club officials said in a press release. “The prescription is determined by using a lensometer after which they are categorized and packaged. This begins in December and runs through February each year, requiring hundreds of hours of service. Eyeglasses are distributed to those in need. Broken lenses are ground for further use, bent or broken metal frames are also recycled.”
Donations to any Lions Club are greatly appreciated, as every one is put to use in some way, the release states.
More information about the recycling effort can be found on the Lake Tomahawk Lions Facebook page.
