Nicolet College now enrolling students in Private Pilot Ground School

Nicolet College will offer its next Private Pilot Ground School as part of the spring 2024 term.

Students will “learn about the joys of flight, what it takes to become a pilot, and the many career options in the aviation field,” according to a Nicolet press release.

Over 200 Wisconsin companies have ties to the state’s aerospace sector, and more than 26,000 people are employed in Wisconsin by companies that support aviation businesses and aerospace manufacturing, the release notes.

The school offers prospective pilots an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of flight required for the Federal Aviation Administration Private or Light Sport Pilot license.

Course content includes pertinent FAA regulations, principles of aerodynamics, airplane systems and performance, instruments, aeromedical and human factors, aviation weather, airspace, airport operations, charts and navigation, cross-country flying, and various aviation career opportunities, the release states.

Upon successful completion of this course and completion of an online exam-prep study course, students will have what they need to complete the FAA written knowledge test.

This 30-hour course will be taught by local flight instructors with years of aviation experience in a variety of aircraft. Classes will be held in a combination of in-person and online, with guest speakers and tours available to expand your aviation knowledge. This course is perfect for anyone interested in pursuing flight training, exploring careers in aviation, or learning more about aviation, the release states.

The 10-week ground school is scheduled from March 12-May 14.

Classes are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings at Nicolet College in Rhinelander, with some off-campus tours. Ground School will be limited to 20 students.

Nicolet College is an FAA Authorized Testing Center. FAA Airman Knowledge Testing written exams are currently available on campus.
