Girls’ basketball: Rhinelander 57, Medford 53

The Rhinelander High School girls’ basketball team withstood a furious late rally by Medford and held off the Raiders 57-53 Monday night at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.

The Hodags led 44-27 with nine minutes to play, but Medford for the lead down to three on a Kayla Baumgartner 3 with 2:34 remaining. Aubryn Clark followed with a three-point play for the Hodags and Rhinelander made five of its final seven free throws to finally put the game away.

Clark led the Hodags with 25 points while Leah Jamison added 10. Baumgartner had 26 for Medford.

Rhinelander (16-5, 9-1 Great Northern) hosts Lakeland on Friday in a battle for first place in the GNC.
